History of Grama Panchayat

Following G.O. (MS) No. 814/62 issued in 1962, the Ambalappara Panchayat was formed by combining the Ambalappara I and II villages. The first governing body came into existence through an election in this 10-ward panchayat. This region was once under the control of the Zamorins of Calicut, the Rajas of Valluvanad, and later the British. It is believed that the name "Ambalappara" originated because of the abundance of temples ("ambalangal") and rocks ("parakal") in the area. Freedom fighters, including INA members like Varikuzhiyil Narayanan Nair, participated in the Indian freedom struggle. The region possesses a cultural heritage closely linked to Jain culture.
