Panchayat Level Tree Committee
A Panchayat-level Tree Committee has been formed to protect trees standing on public roads and public spaces, and to prevent potential accidents caused by trees or their branches uprooting or breaking and falling.
Tree committees at the panchayat level have been constituted as per Local Self Government Department Circular No. 248/RC3/2016/LSGD dated 14.07.2017. Currently, since the permission of the district-level tree committee is required for cutting down trees, the local-level tree committee operates to avoid delays and make timely decisions in emergency situations.
Committee Structure

- Forest Range Officer / Representative – Member
Key Responsibilities
Inspect whether trees and branches in public places pose safety hazards.
Take necessary action regarding trees that pose a threat to the life and property of the public.
Instruct private property owners to cut down dangerous trees under their ownership.
Take appropriate legal action and recover expenses from the concerned individual in case of non-compliance with the instructions.
Ensure that valuation of the trees to be cut down is conducted through the Forest Department.
Coordinate tree conservation activities within the panchayat limits and ensure a safe environment.
The Panchayat Level Tree Committee functions with the objective of equally ensuring public safety and environmental protection.
