What is Jagratha Samithi?
Jagratha Samithi is a women's and children's protection forum operating continuously at the grassroots level to ensure their rights, physical and mental well-being, and safety, as well as to prevent atrocities, violations of rights, and social boycotts against them.
To create a protection mechanism, Jagratha Samithi operates promptly in areas where immediate intervention is essential. These committees can also function by utilizing available legal protections and systems for women and children, addressing cases and issues previously abandoned due to the lack of various committees.
Objectives
- Protect the rights of women and children and ensure arrangements for strong interventions and remedies against any atrocities, discrimination, injustice, exploitation, and denial of justice faced by them.
- Receive any complaints involving women and children as parties and resolve them through immediate interventions or support systems.
- Forward complaints and issues that cannot be resolved independently by the Jagratha Samithi to the District Jagratha Samithi, Women's Commission, other government systems, and legal aid agencies, and ensure the outcomes reach the grassroots level through follow-up activities.
- Coordinate government-level agencies and schemes dedicated to protecting the rights of women and girls. Coordinate the activities of other similar agencies with the Jagratha Samithi to make initiatives effective.
- Implement activities to create a social environment in the community where women and children do not face any issues.
- Create various types of collectives and utilize public systems to achieve these goals.
- Provide community monitoring and support for women and child welfare activities in situations prone to misuse.

Ward/Division Level Jagratha Samithi
The ward/division Jagratha Samithi is a sub-unit of the Jagratha Samithi formed for women and children at the local government level. The general meeting of the ward-level committee can be organized along with Gram Sabhas or as a separate Gram Sabha for convenience.
